the moment to fight, to fight, to fight...

WHO: [livejournal.com profile] wickedcultured & [livejournal.com profile] duelking | Closed
LOCATION: Olympus Coliseum
TIME: Backdated to... idk. Sometime before Zell got turned into minced meat.
WHAT: MORTAL KOMBAAAAAT! ...I mean. Moar fighting, yes. They both decided to participate in a mini-tournament.
RATING: PG-13 at the most? For violence and possibly language.

To be perfectly honest, Zell almost wished he'd been assigned to work at Olympus Coliseum to work-- but then he knew he'd probably have spent more time participating in tournaments like these instead of actually protecting the world from Heartless like he was supposed to. It was distracting enough working at the Land of Dragons, where everyone practiced martial arts.

Nevertheless, he was pretty pumped to be here. He'd made it to the finals of this mini-tournament, although really... his opponents had all just been a bunch of pushovers up 'til this point. He just hoped his fellow finalist was as good of a fighter as he looked! Their names were soon called once the arena was ready and Zell headed out onto the stone square that served as the main fighting grounds. Once he was out on the arena, he began stretching and loosening up, ending with him bouncing on the balls of his feet with his fists pulled up before him.

Aw, yeah. He was ready for a good fight!

Genesis had arrived only shortly before the main round and after his talk with Sephiroth, he had decided to participate in this mini-tournament of sorts. He couldn't join the Hades Cup for now, but perhaps when it reopened he would.

For now, however, he had one more opponent to get through, then he would get his prize and go to the world he had been assigned too.

Once the announcement was made to enter the arena, Genesis followed the paths before squinting lightly at the sunlight when he walked into the vast area. There were quite a few people in the stands, a magic barrier surround sears just in case the fighters were reckless. Reaching behind him, he grasped the decorative filigree handle of his sword and pulled it free of its sheath, the crimson blade gleaming in the light.

He took note of the boy before him, the energy and and stature. He was a martial artist and quite young at that. He almost reminded him of Zack, actually. Still, just because he was young didn't mean he could take him lightly. Genesis needed to see how well this boy fought before decided how much power he should use. All? None? Half? He didn't know.

"Are you ready?" He smirked.

He was fast too. Genesis' smirk widened as he widened his stance, digging his heel into the ground as he quickly moved his blade across his body. Placing his hand on the flat on the blade, he blocked Zell's kick before it could hit his chest. Having already prepared, he wasn't knocked off balance. From here, he pushed out to send the boy back before propelling himself forward, Rapier swinging towards Zell.

The blond wasn't the only one who was fast. Where Genesis had lacked in strength, compared to Sephiroth and Angeal anyway, he gained in speed.

Image Genesis was a bit surprised at the recklessness of that action, using his fists to stop his blade. But he also admired it as well. How could he not? No one thought to block a blade with a fist but this teenager. His sword caused sparks to fly from that metal-padded glove, and for a moment, he pushed harder to get threw but his glowing Mako blue eyes caught the movement of Zell's body shifting to close in.

It was a close call, his feet pushing back as hard as possible to prevent that fist of connecting. The fist still managed to clip his chin, the metal plating cutting throw his pale skin. Genesis grunted and quickly put some distance to wipe the blood from his chin. Well, he hadn't been nicked like that in years.

"Impressive," He commented, a green light emitting from his wrist that moved to run across the crimson blade of Rapier. The blade began to glow, runes appearing upon the blade until it was fully lit with a red fire. "Very impressive, indeed. But I think I'd like to up the ante just a bit. Are you game?"

The image if a blue clock appeared before Genesis, the hands moving clockwise from noon to midnight and to any magic user, it was obvious was Genesis just cast.

Haste.

Genesis was gone, moving in blur to close in on Zell again, glowing blade moving fast.

Now this was more like it.

Genesis flipped the blade, against catching the punch against the flat of the blade. It was strong enough to not break, not even bend, but he knew that his his sword hadn't been imbued with magic, it could have bent slightly. If nothing else, Genesis felt the power behind the attack. The boy was young, reckless, but powerful. A bit like Genesis back in his SOLDIER days.

They were a blur of red and blue to anyone watching, Genesis was pushed back by that powerful punch but with a skid, halt, and leap, Genesis was back in the air and running at Zell. Blade swinging for another attack, Genesis didn't hold back.

Zell was dodging his sword admirably, gaining speed as he did so before he put some distance. It wasn't until the stone square was in the air that Genesis had realized what Zell was going to do. In the few seconds he had, Genesis had to make a split decision. Meet the stone with his sword, dodge it, or use something else.

He opted for the last option and skidded to a halt. His hand glowed fiery for a brief moment as he gathered up the heat, then with a small cry, he chucked the massive fire ball at the stone. It exploded upon contact, but Genesis wasn't done. Taking control of the various fireballs that came from his Firaga attack, he pulled them back to send them careening at the airborne blond, reminiscent of that sparring all those years ago.

Only Genesis wouldn't take it too far, not this time. He wanted to defeat Zell, not kill him, after all. Still, it was going to be interesting to see what Zell did with that many fire spells flying at him.

Image Genesis watched in satisfaction as Zell was hurled into the air and landed with a loud thud, on his feet no less. Genesis had been charging Zell as soon as he landed on the ground when he heard Zell. He skidded to a halt, but it was too late and Zell had already begun his attack.

Quickly, hastily, Genesis jumped into the air, wing beating wildly to get him higher up but the stone and dirt was spraying too fast. While Genesis had successfully evading the ground shockwave, he couldn't evade the explosion of earth that slammed into him. He dodged and rolled out of the way as best he could, but several boulders had slammed into his body and he was knocked out of the air.

He landed with a grunt, legs curling to absorb the impact but his body still rolled. When he came to a stop, he was bruised and scratch, bleeding in some places, but his feet were under him, his combat boots keeping him from landing back onto his backside. He panted softly, but he was thoroughly impressed. So used to his spars with Angeal and Sephiroth that fighting another magic user and one who used his physical attacks with the ground around him was certainly a new one for him.

"It's been quite awhile since someone knocked me to the ground like this," He said. "Sadly, it never lasts long. You are quick, but... are you as fast as lightning?"

His hand raised, the skies darkened as the highest thunder spell was cast. Thunder rolled and it was the only warning Zell was going to get before the Thundaga spell rained down upon him.

It was something Genesis could never control well when it came to fights. Eventually, someone upped the ante and Genesis always followed suit until things got out of hand. Genesis watched as the lightning rained down upon the boy and was, again, impressed by his resilience. That Shell spell was lasting far longer than anticipated, but it was obviously doing its job.

"Oh?" He tilted his head, before watching the unfamiliar Aura be cast. If nothing else, Zell looked like a one man parade and it was pretty ridiculous looking. However, despite how odd and laughable it looked, when Zell moved, it was certainly no laughing matter. Genesis was quick to wrap his wing around himself and hold up his arms to block those flurry of martial arts.

His bracelet glowed and he cast another round of Hastega, which allowed him to see Zell just a little better. His glowing eyes moved fast, tracking Zell and trying to locate a pattern despite the near blur of him through the inky black feathers and the bruising he knew he was getting all over his body. But he stood still, taking the hits until-

Firaga.
